A huge thank-you to Our FRIer Sujean Rim for passing her baton to Shana!
A Maine native, Shana has plucked from her storybook surrounds the emblematic rough and ready ropes that sum up the seaside and re-imagined them in to happy and thoughtful bracelets & accessories in her brand The Ropes. With a J Crew collabo feathering her cap, Shana has created a gorgeous piece of her sunny self in her collections. What a wonderous creature.
Her FRIs herewith! Enjoy...
A graduate of the Rhode Island school of design, Shana’s career in apparel design took her to New York city and Boston. However, it was the natural beauty of her home state that drew her back and inspired the creation of the ropes.
Shana is interested in jewelry that tells a story, that holds a memory. The ropes is an homage to both the natural beauty of the maine coast the communities, traditions and way of life that define it. This is the story the ropes tells in the textures of dock line, the weight of a piece of hardware and faded color of a rope weathered by a summer at the beach. It is a story that begins in the studio and is written by whoever wears it, by the journey they take it on.
Shana spends her free time on the water with her husband and two children, lobstering on the family boat and exploring the endless islands and surprises of the coast.

Your FRI: MIYAKE RESTAURANTS
Portland has become a total food destination, it is hard to keep up, let alone choose one spot! Somewhere I return to again and again is Miyake, I love their creative spin on sushi, it never disappoints. But my favorite meals have to involve lobster, I’m a Mainer afterall. I the whole experience of gathering the people together at our house for lobster, everyone rolling up their sleeves and getting involved, it's messy, and chaotic—a real family affair, you can’t beat it.
